Maintenance
A hearing instrument is a big investment and it is imperative that you take the necessary steps to keeping it functioning properly by good maintenance.
Your hearing instrument must be cleaned regularly be a professional, but there are a few things you can do yourself to keep your hearing aid working its best all the time.
Use only fresh batteries
- Store batteries properly – out of reach of children, pets and not stored together with medication.
- Open the battery door at night.
- Never store batteries together with a dry aid kit – this will drain battery’s power.
Cleaning
- Clean the microphone and receiver on a regular basis with cleaning tools provided by your audiologist.
- Wipe the shell with a soft tissue. Never clean your hearing aid in water!
- Contact Danica Hearing Centre if you have problems cleaning your hearing aid.
Earmolds
- Earmolds from BTE (Behind-The-Ear) instruments can be detached and cleaned in mild soap. Check for correct instructions for your hearing aid.
- The earmold and tubing should be completely dry before reattaching it to the hearing instrument.
- The earmold tubing should be changed on a regular basis, especially if it becomes brittle, hard or change colour. Contact Danica Hearing Centre for an appointment.
Moisture
- Do not expose your hearing aid to water, it can be damaging!
- Store in dry conditions at night.
