Real-ear-measurement
Real-ear-measurement is a test for assessing the benefit that the patient gets from the use of a hearing aid.
This test can be performed on all patients for whose hearing thresholds are known.
This test requires that the patient will be seated, quiet and calm for a few minutes, while the test is done. A probe attached to a microphone is inserted into the ear canal and the sound transmitted from a speaker. The probe microphone then records the ear canal resonance. A hearing aid is then put on the ear and the test is repeated. The different between the natural ear canal resonance and that obtained with the use of a hearing aid are compared. This enables the doctor to record the gain or benefit of using a particular hearing aid.
At Danica Hearing Centre this test is computerised to ensure a high degree of reliability and accuracy. The results are obtained within half an hour and are interpreted by the doctor.
