Dear Audiologist,
A bit about myself: I am 36 years. In year 2000 I for the first time started experiencing ringing in my ears which was shortly followed by some loss of hearing. I saw the first ENT specialist in 2001. The doctor told me that I had mild hearing loss and she said she suspected it was because of caking of my earbones. At the time she also said it would not be appropriate to recommend a hearing aid.
I have had visits to other doctors in my country (Tanzania) aproximately once every two years since then.
I struggle a lot to make sense of words when people speak to me and especially when they are not facing me. My work involves a lot of interactions with other people and I feel so embarassed that I can't cope at times with communication and I have to ask people to repeat themselves many times.
A doctor I recently visited suggested that I might be a candidate for a hearing aid. However appropriate tests are not available here so he suggested I try to get in touch.
I would like to book an appointment for a hearing test but also would like to know how much I would need for it.
Could you kindly inform me about the the cost of the hearing test and in case I might need to use a hearing aid, what it is likely to cost me to get one?
Thanks in advance,
Rose
